It was
my pleasure to coach Angela Coniglio for her entire collegiate career. During those four
years, Angela played an instrumental role in our success, helping to turn an unknown
school that had only had soccer for one year, into a Nationally known program.
Highlights during Angela's career were many. Winning the University of Rochester
Invitational Tournament, a major upset at the time, as Angela assisted on the winning
goal, put Nazareth's fledgling program on the map. Angela was only a freshman, in her
fourth collegiate competition, but she was already making her presence felt.
During
Angela's tenure, we would go on to a record of 50-22-5, make three consecutive New York
State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association Championship appearances, and in her junior
year, be ranked as high as 14th in the nation.
Angela
gave opposing teams nightmares. Her sprinter's speed, aggressive attitude and superb ball
handling skills, made her a threat every time she touched the ball. Along with a scoring
touch that accounted for 42 career goals, she is also the Nazareth College career assist
leader with 31.
Goals,
assists, wins and losses don't capture enough of Angela's career. She was a competitor,
she played to win, and she played with a passion. Her love of the game is what I
remember most. The zeal and exuberance she brought to the field was her trademark. It is
my honor to present Angela Coniglio for induction into the Nazareth College Sports Hall of
Fame.
