Salvatore "Sal" Liotta

May 10, 1937 - July 3, 2025

Nokomis, Florida

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend Salvatore Liotta, of Nokomis, Florida, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 4 at the age of 88. Sal was born on May 10, 1937 in Buffalo, New York to Carmelo and Rose Liotta.

He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Marion.

Sal is survived by his wife, Regina (Schrader) Liotta, daughter Jacquie Scoff (David Scoff) of Endwell, NY, daughter Danielle Liotta and wife Teresa Kastanis of Stone Ridge, NY, and sister Antoinette Giordano (Thomas Giordano) of Williamsville, NY.

Sal is survived by his very loved granddaughter, Marisa (Scoff) Churchill and her husband, Spencer Churchill. He is also survived by many cherished in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Sal graduated from Lafayette High School and was a member of the TZT fraternity. From there, he pursued his education at the University of Buffalo where he received a BS in Electrical Engineering. He finalized his studies by obtaining a Masters Degree from Syracuse University.

Sal's career spanned 40 years in the technical field. He held engineering assignments and management positions at Rome Air Development Center, IBM Federal Systems Division, Loral, and Lockheed Martin. Sal was responsible for the design, development, performance, and follow-up/upgrade activity of several military programs.

Those who knew Sal were very familiar with his wonderful sense of humor, his love of learning, teaching, nature, skiing, and traveling. But the greatest love of his life was his family. Nothing made Sal happier than celebrating life milestones and holidays with his loved ones.

Funeral Services will be held 3:30 pm, Thursday, July 10 at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, Thursday, July 10 from 2 pm, until service time at 3:30 pm.

Sal's mother Rose Puma Liotta called him 'Sammy'.  Sal had a loving family that made his friends feel like a part of them.  He came to Lafayette High School a year after me, in 1951, and we called him Sam.  In his later adult life, he was 'Sal'.  In 1953, Leo Howard sponsored me for membership in Tau Zeta Tau Fraternity, of which Sam was already a member.  That was a highlight of my young life.

We shared the typical adventures of teenagers, 'weinie roasts', high school dances, girls, etc., and Sam felt like a brother to me.  After high school, Sam and fraternity brother John Gugino started their college education at the University of Buffalo School of Engineering.  I joined the Army for two years, and when I got out, I decided to follow in their footsteps, so we were also college schoolmates, and eventually graduate engineers.  John's family had been in the U.S, for a couple of generations, but Sam and I were sons of immigrants from Sicily, mine from Serradifalco, his from Racalmuto.

After they graduated, Sam and John moved out of town, but we kept in contact over the years and even made 'golf trips' together for many years in the late 1990s and early 2000s.  Memories of those raucous trips are a blessing.

Below are photos that I've collected or taken, that have Sam or his parents in them.  In most cases you can click on them to enlarge them.

REST IN PEACE, old friend.
