It is with profound sadness that I share the
passing of my beloved father, Salvatore James
Genco, who left us on 6/11/24 at the age of 86.
Surrounded by his loving family in his final
moments, he was a man of faith, deep love for
family (la famiglia), and “wise guy” humor. He
touched the lives of all who knew him and his
absence leaves a painful void in our hearts. He
was born in Buffalo, NY to Joseph and Josephine
Genco and was immensely proud of his Sicilian
heritage, often reminding others that he was
Sicilian not Italian. He is survived by his
daughter (Laura Kaya), son-in-law (Kerry Kaya),
granddaughter (Kennedy Corpus), nieces, nephews,
and cousins who will carry on his legacy. My
father’s death is preceded by his parents,
brother (Gasper Genco), sister (Gertrude Vanmeer),
son (Sammy Genco, Jr.), life partner (Sheila
Dupin), and many other family and friends. I
invite you to honor my father by telling his
stories, sharing your favorite memories of him,
enjoying a meal (preferably Italian) with family
and friends, listening to Frank Sinatra, and
rooting for the Buffalo Bills. My family would
like to express their heartfelt thanks and
gratitude to the amazing doctors, nurses, and
hospice staff at Sutter Health for the care they
gave my father during his final days. Thank you
to everyone who has ever loved, cared, and shown
support for my father.
In my father’s own words, “I deserve it”.
